Hair Loss in Women
Hair loss in women can be very disturbing. While men also dread losing their hair, the hair loss women experience carries with it an even deeper psychological impact.
It is expected that men will likely lose some hair as they grow older, but women go to great lengths to keep their hair looking as if they were young. They color it to cover up the gray (some men color their hair as well, but not nearly as many). They choose hair styles that keep them looking young. After all of this, to find they are losing their hair is very distressing to women. The hair loss women have can be damaging to their self-esteem. It can cause them to withdraw from social situations. It can affect their body image. It can have a serious psychological impact on their lives. Because of this, women are always looking for ways to disguise their hair loss. Ways to Disguise Hair Loss in Women
There are some simple ways to disguise hair loss in women. These work if hair is just slightly thinning but hair loss is not too severe. Certain hairstyles give the appearance of greater volume. These are generally styles where the hair is layered. Short hair is better than long hair. A hair stylist will know the best styles to disguise thinning hair. Some shampoos and conditioners also give hair more volume. Following these with a styling mousse can disguise thinning hair. When hair loss women have is more severe, women may resort to wearing hats or scarves to cover their heads. They may also wear wigs. These can be inconvenient and uncomfortable at times. Treating Hair Loss in Women
Women are often embarrassed about their hair loss, and so they are reluctant to seek treatment. However, there is treatment for hair loss women experience. There is nothing shameful about losing hair, and nothing to be embarrassed about in seeking treatment. There is Rogaine, most commonly known as a hair loss treatment for men. It is made for women as well. It is a cream that is applied to the scalp. It is fairly effective, although messy to apply. Less well known is Avacor, another cream that stimulates new hair growth for both women and men. It works similarly to Rogaine. Another option is hair transplants. This is another treatment best known as a treatment for men with hair loss, but it is also an option for hair loss in women. They don’t really cause new hair to grow, but surgically take “plugs” of hair from areas where hair is thick and transplant them in areas where hair is thin, thereby distributing hair more evenly over the head. Hair transplants are not always an effective treatment for women with hair loss, however, because they lose hair in a different pattern than men. Male pattern baldness is to lose hair at the top of the head and it spreads out from there. Female pattern baldness, on the other hand, is to thin out all over the head. So there may not be an area of hair thick enough to take “plugs” from. Hair may continue to thin after transplants, as well, and this treatment can be rather costly. There are some natural supplements that treat hair loss women have, and some of them are quite effective. They are certainly worth looking into.
