Hair Loss Product Review
We’d like to offer you a detailed hair loss product review and share with you our recommended best hair loss product. Our hair loss product review will look at a number of the most popular hair loss treatments and let you know the pros and cons of each of them. This will help you select the best hair loss product for you.
Rogaine
The active ingredient in Rogaine is minoxidil. It is available without a prescription, and is reasonably priced. It is a topical treatment and offers a formula for men and one for women. Being a topical treatment, it can be a bit messy to apply. Minoxidil works by widening shrunken hair follicles so that hair can grow longer and thicker. Minoxidil is an ingredient in the best hair loss product. It can have side effects but these are rare. It is effective in 50 – 60% of people who use it.
Scalp Med
Scalp Med is less well known than Rogaine, but it also a topical solution that contains minoxidil. While our hair loss product review found no published data on its success rates, it’s probably similar to Rogaine. However, they claim to begin to show results in as little as 60 days, whereas Rogaine can take up to eight months to work. (We’re a bit skeptical about the 60 days, though). In addition to the topical solution, Scalp Med offers a detoxifying solution, a shampoo, and a multi-vitamin supplement.
Propecia
Propecia, or finasteride, is an oral medication, and it requires a prescription. It is recommended only for men. In fact, pregnant women or women who may become pregnant should not even handle the tablets, because the medicine can be absorbed through the skin and harm the developing baby. It is easier to use than a topical solution, though. Propecia works by preventing testosterone from being converted into another hormone, dihydrotestosterone, which causes hair loss. It is effective in 40 – 50% of men who use it.
Saw Palmetto
Saw palmetto is an herb that is being investigated for use as a hair loss treatment. It is believed to work similarly to finasteride, but with fewer side effects. It is sometimes combined with other ingredients in hair loss treatments. Our hair loss product review found no data, however, on saw palmetto and how effective it is. It is also not known how it might affect women during pregnancy, so pregnant and nursing mothers are advised not to use the herb.
Procerin
Procerin is a vitamin supplement designed to prevent hair loss. It is marketed to men, but there is no reason it should not be effective in women as well. There is no data, however, to show how effective it really is. We do know, though, that proper nutrition is a key element to preventing hair loss, so any multi-vitamin supplement, including Procerin, should be helpful. A regular multi-vitamin that you buy at the grocery store is probably cheaper, though.
Provillus
Provillus is another hair loss treatment that contains minoxidil. In addition to the topical solution, it comes with an herbal/vitamin supplement. There is a separate supplement for men and women, specially designed to meet their unique needs. For instance, the supplement for men contains nettle root, which blocks dihydrotestosterone. It also contains Siberian ginseng, which decreases testosterone, which can cause hair loss. The supplement for women, on the other hand, contains ingredients like biotin, a vitamin that helps produce keratin (a protein that helps make up hair). It also contains horsetail, an herbal supplement that enhances circulation to the scalp and stimulates hair growth.
