How to Regrow Hair
People often ask us how to regrow hair. Hair regrowth is a complicated process. It depends on why hair stopped growing in the first place. But it often is possible to regrow hair. Don’t assume that just because you are getting up in years, hair loss is inevitable. That’s definitely not the case.
When Hair Will Regrow By Itself
That’s right, there are many cases in which hair will regrow on its own. People are always relieved to hear this. Cases in which hair will regrow on its own include hair loss following childbirth or surgery, and hair loss due to stress. Just give it a few months, and the hair will grow back. While some people prefer to use a hair loss treatment to help speed the process, this isn’t really necessary. It usually takes a couple of months for those treatments to start working anyway, and by then your hair will start regrowing on its own.
Hair may also fall out due to certain medical treatment. Everyone is familiar with hair loss due to chemotherapy, but other drugs can also cause hair loss. When the treatments are over, hair regrowth generally occurs without any special treatment. A hair loss treatment may speed the process here, however. In some cases, a medication must be used long-term, and then hair cannot regrow. A hair loss treatment may or may not be effective. Talk to your doctor. Please, though, don’t ever stop taking your medication without consulting your doctor first.
When You’ll Need Hair Loss Treatment
Unfortunately, there are many times when you will have to do something to start the hair regrowth process. If you are losing hair due to the aging process (this is likely also hereditary hair loss), it will not reverse itself. You will have to take action. In fact, the sooner you take action, the better - studies have shown that hair loss treatments are more effective while you still have some hair left. Once you are completely bald, they don’t work as well for some reason.
The best products to help you regrow hair contain minoxidil. Minoxidil was originally developed as a drug to treat high blood pressure, but researchers found that it also stimulated hair regrowth. It works by widening shrunken hair follicles so that new hair can grow and the hair that grows can be thicker and stronger. Minoxidil doesn’t work for everyone, and no one really knows why that is. It is, however, the most effective treatment available to regrow hair. Hair loss treatments may contain other ingredients and supplements as well that are designed to compliment the minoxidil and maximize its effectiveness.
You should also know that certain illnesses can cause hair loss. These include things like certain autoimmune disorders, thyroid disorders, uncontrolled diabetes, and kidney and liver disease. You’ll need medical treatment in order to regrow hair if you’re suffering from a medical problem like one of these. Once the condition is under control, your hair will probably grow back. If it doesn’t start to regrow on its own, then you can look into hair loss treatments. Hair regrowth treatments won’t be effective until the medical problem has been addressed, though. You should see your doctor any time you have unusual hair loss, just to rule out a medical problem.
