Rogaine For Women
Did you know there is Rogaine for women as well as Rogaine for men? While Rogaine is most often marketed to men, there is also Rogaine women use.
Rogaine for women contains the same active ingredient that Rogaine for men contains. The ingredient is minoxidil. Minoxidil was originally developed as a medication to treat high blood pressure. It was discovered, however, to have a side effect of causing improved hair growth in those with thinning hair.
Minoxidil works by opening shrunken hair follicles. This allows hair to grow thicker and longer. That’s the idea, anyway.
The Rogaine women use is effective about 44% of the time. Experts aren’t sure why it is effective for some people but not for others. The Rogaine women use can take up to a year to show results, so you will need to be patient in order to see if it is going to work for you.
Rogaine is fairly safe to use. The most common side effect is itching of the scalp. This can be combated with a dandruff shampoo. Pregnant or nursing mothers should not use Rogaine, however. You should also not use Rogaine if you have any cuts, scrapes, inflammation, irritation, sunburn, or broken skin on your head.
Applying Rogaine for Women
The Rogaine women use comes in a liquid form. It is applied with a dropper. Rogaine for women is applied twice a day. Applying it more often or applying more than one dropper full will not improve results.
The scalp must be dry when it is applied. The hair is parted to expose the scalp. The liquid is then applied to the area where hair is thinning. After it has dried, hair can be styled as usual. However, you might want to take extra care when styling your hair to help prevent further hair loss.
Using harsh chemicals on your hair can exacerbate hair loss. So can hairstyles that put a lot of traction on your hair, such as tight braids or buns. Using a lot of heat on your hair, such as blow drying or curling irons may also cause hair to become brittle and break. The Rogaine women use may be more effective if you use a more natural hairstyle.
Rogaine Shampoo
There is also a Rogaine shampoo women can use. It is called Prograine. It does not help hair grow, but is extra gentle on fine, thin hair. It also helps add volume to hair.
You don’t have to use Rogaine shampoo while using Rogaine to treat your hair loss. You can use your regular shampoo if you prefer. It might be a good idea to choose a shampoo designed for fine hair, however. You can probably find one cheaper than Prograine, though, and it should work just as well.
If you’re experiencing hair loss, it’s a good idea to baby your hair. In addition to using a gentle shampoo, wash your hair gently. Don’t scrub too hard. Pat your hair dry instead or rubbing it with a towel. Avoid blow drying it if you can. If you wait until your hair is dry to brush it, it will be less likely to break; dry hair is less brittle than wet hair.
